Skills training – the system can’t keep up
Mark Roberts, co-founder of Beerhawk and member of the Skills Commission, offers his views on the skills system from an SME perspective.
As a fast-growing SME, Beerhawk employs around 80 people and tries to keep as many functions in house as possible, which means a significant investment of time and money in staff development
Mark says he is passionate about helping to improve people’s skills and while technology has disrupted the iobs market, the way people learn new skills and get training hasn’t kept up.
He argues that we need a new way of thinking about skills that links peoples’ development with the skills that business need now – and radical new ways about thinking about training might be required.
